Why you should go to school

Although not everyone would agree with me with the following statements, I would like to argue that all children should go to school

In order to give you a good chance in getting a good job, everyone needs a good education so it’s important to go to school.

In school you can learn about things that interest you and  you can  also learn new skills.

Furthermore, you can make friends with other people the same age and you can learn to play all different types of sports so school can be fun.

And this is why I think everyone should go to school.

Nintendo

Although not everybody would agree, I want to argue that playing the Nintendo too much will make your eyesight worse.

I have several reasons for arguing this point of view. My first reason is:

Some gamers complained of headaches and minor discomfort while playing the Nintendo.

A further reason is that eye doctors now think 3D is only harmful to children with developing eyes.

Furthermore your thumbs can freeze up after playing the Nintendo and I have had experience of this.

Therefore, although some people might argue that playing the Nintendo is good for you, this is not true.

I think I have shown that playing the Nintendo too much could damage your eyesight.

You write a persuasive report to argue a case from a particular point of view and encourage the reader towards the same way of seeing things. Before writing, you should gather information on the topic. The opening statement is what sums up your viewpoint. Then write information that backs up your point of view. And finally, the closing statement reinforces the original point of view. It’s important to address your audience directly and to write in simple present tense.

Smoking is bad for your health

Although not everybody would agree, I want to argue that smoking is bad for your health and can even kill you.
I have good reasons for arguing for this point of view. My first reason is that smoking is responsible for several diseases. These include lung cancer, throat cancer and heart disease.  It also causes bronchitis and emphysema, which can make breathing very difficult.
My next reason is that smoking can affect the health of people around them.  This is called passive smoking.  Worldwide 5.5 million die every year from smoking.
Furthermore, people do not realise the amount of bad chemicals in the tar of cigarettes. It is like putting weed killer into your body. Why would you want to do this to your body? Crazy!
Therefore, although some people might argue that smoking is really cool, it really stinks.  Smokers will lose between ten and fifteen years of their potential life span.
I think I have shown that smoking is one of the worst things for your health.

Why you should use computers in school

Although not everybody would agree, I want to argue that computers are a good benefit for pupils in primary school.

  • It’s easier to download books on the computers than to buy the books.
  • You save a lot of money and it would be a lot easier on pupils as they wouldn’t have to carry heavy school bags.
  • It’s easier to work on and it cuts out a lot of paper for the teacher.
  • Even though people may not agree that computers should be in school, I think I have shown that computers should be in school.

Why exercising is good for you

You should exercise because exercising is healthy for your body. It is a strengthening thing for your heart, which is a very important because your heart is the engine of your body. It keeps your lungs healthy and keeps your body active which can help you live a longer life. It helps reduce cholesterol which is very important as this can be harmful to your well-being. You might not like exercising but I hope the above shows you the benefits. Exercising is healthy for you and your body.

Hunting

I exercise my horse out on the fun rides.  Some people don’t like horses because they think cows are better.
We help the farmers to keep away the foxes with the hounds.
Meeting and making new friends and learning from them and having fun hunting.
We will put up the wire after using the field for riding and not putting up the wire after us.
If you aren’t an active member of the Club, you cannot come on the day because you are not a club member.
You learn a lot on hunting.  I think I have proven my point.

Why children should play sports

I have several reasons for why children should play sports.
My first reason is most children spend all their free time watching tv and playing video games, instead of going outside and doing something physical.
Secondly children who participate in sport are most likely to be in good shape.
Another reason is most parents are encouraged to ensure their children participate in sport so that they have balanced personalities.
Finally at least 30% of Irish children do not participate in sport in their free time.
I think that I have shown why children should do sport and not watch too much tv or play too many video games. In my opinion, I think that you should enjoy sport because of the positive benefits.

Computer games

I think that computer games have their advantages as they help us learn and have fun. Computers are good for us because they help us. They teach us a lot such as reading, writing and history.
A further reason computers are good for us is because they are fun.
Furthermore, they improve our confidence because if you learn how to do something correctly and by yourself then you become more confident.
Therefore, although some people might argue that computer games are bad for you, I don’t agree.
I think I have shown that computer games have their advantages as they help us learn and have fun.

Fox hunting is a good sport

Although not everybody would agree, I want to argue that fox hunting is a good sport. I have several reasons for arguing this point of view. My first reason is that farmers are glad that most of the foxes are gone because their animals are all ok. A further reason is that sick foxes can spread disease to a farmer’s cattle by drinking out of cattle water. Therefore, fox hunting should not be banned. There a threat to wildlife and animals.

In conclusion, although some people might argue that fox hunting is a cruel sport, I think I have shown that I am positive for fox hunting.

Why you should not play video games:

Video games contain violence which people pick up and do in real life. Video games could hurt your eyes and then you would need glasses. If your eyes got hurt the glasses could cost you a lot of money. You could also buy a game that cost too much or if you can’t get it, you could start crying.
I think you should get out more and go for walks more.

Why you should do hip hop and dance

I think you should do hip hop and dance because you can learn a new skill to show off.
Furthermore, you can meet new people and interact with them. You get a new talent to show your friends and family.
Although other people may argue with my points my view, I think you should do hip hop and dance.

IRD Duhallow

Newmarket Boys’ School,
West End,
Co Cork.
31/01/13

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing this letter to voice my concern about I.R.D. Duhallow being taken over by Cork County Council.

I.R.D. Duhallow have created many jobs in the local area. Raymond O’Sullivan came to our school on behalf of I.R.D. Duhallow to teach about life in the olden days and included information on cutting turf using a box iron and milking by hand. They brought our class to a local river and taught us about the life and habitat of the river. They also run a very helpful after school homework club. They run an extremely cheap insulation service. They have done countless favours for the school and the community. I believe that I.R.D. Duhallow are doing a great job as it is and a much better job than the council could. For this reason I believe that I.R.D. Duhallow should be left as they are.
I hope you take my concerns seriously and I am looking forward to your reply.

Yours sincerely,
Darragh Lynn, 5th Class

Why you should go to school

It is very important to go to school. Everyone deserves an education as this will help you to get a good job. An education will stand to you for life.
A further reason is that school helps us to build friendships. It also helps us socially and prepares us for adult life.
Everybody likes to learn new things each day. We also like to learn about other countries and other languages. School is interesting and exciting.
I do not agree with people who say school is long and boring. I believe that our school days are truly the best days of our lives. It is vital that we go to school.

Jerry Daly, 3rd Class

Why smoking is bad for you

Although not everybody would agree, I want to argue that smoking is extremely bad for you and could ultimately kill you. I have several reasons for being in favour of this point of view.
My first reason is smoking causes lots of diseases such as heart disease, lung cancer, throat cancer and many more.
A further reason is smoking is a bad influence on children and they may be tempted to try it out for themselves. Passive smoking is another reason why smoking should be made illegal because people are breathing in the smoke and have no choice in it.
Furthermore, one out of two dies from smoking related reasons and that’s a very frightening fact. So this is what smoking can do to you.
Therefore, although some people might argue that smoking a few cigarettes a day isn’t too bad, they’re wrong because any bit of tobacco is bad for you.
I think I have shown from my facts that smoking is very unhealthy.

How watching television affects your eyes

Although not everybody would agree, I want to argue that watching television will affect your eyesight in the future.
I have several reasons for promoting this point of view. My first reason is that a study carried out on watching television up too close affected the eyesight of 52% of children.
A further reason is when you are watching television, you are sitting on the couch and not getting any exercise.
Furthermore, if you spend all of your spare time watching television, you will not be able to play any sport or have other healthy hobbies.
Therefore, although some people might argue that watching television does not affect your eyesight, it is clearly not a good thing to spend a long time watching television as it is bad for your eyesight and for your health.

Why you should go to school again…

Although not everyone would agree with me on the following statements, I would like to argue that all children should go to school.
In order to give you a good chance in getting a decent job, everyone needs a good education; so it’s important to go to school.
In school, you can learn about things that interest you and you can also learn new skills.
Furthermore, you can make friends with other people the same age and you can learn to play all different types of sports. So, school can be fun.
This is why I think everyone should go to school.

Why fast food is bad for you

Although not everybody would agree, I want to argue that fast food is bad for you.
I have several reasons for supporting this point of view. My first reason is that fast food barely contains vitamins and minerals and it is not healthy food to eat.
A further reason is the fast food industry has added every chemical possible that they can legally get away with to addict people to their food.
Furthermore, fast food is high in fat, sugar and salt and can contribute to high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease.
Therefore, although some people might argue that fast food is good for you, I think it is bad for you.
I think I have shown that you should not eat fast food.

Why Hunting is a Cruel Sport

Although not everybody would agree, I want to argue that hunting is a cruel sport towards animals. I have several reasons for supporting this point of view.
My first reason is every year there are thousands of hares killed. This sport is unnecessary, it’s cruel and it’s killing.
A further reason is that these animals are often taken from their habitats very cruelly and put in fields that are strange to them. When they are being chased by an animal they don’t know where to run.
Furthermore, people that do this sport for their own entertainment are not very caring people because they are watching animals suffer who can get badly injured and have to be put down.
Therefore, although some people might argue that they earn a living from this sport and others might argue that this is a tradition they want to keep, they think this is a good enough reason for this sport to continue.
I think I have shown that hunting is a cruel sport.

Why you should play the PS3

I am here to explain to you why you should play the PS3. I have several reasons on why you should play the PS3.
My first reason is playing the PS3 is a very enjoyable way to pass time.
Also, one of the proven benefits of the PS3 is it improves your hand-eye co-ordination.
Another reason is by using the internet you can play on-line with your friends, which can help improve social interaction.
If you ever said the PS3 is a waste of time I think I have explained to you that the PS3 is not a waste of time and if you don’t have a PS3 you should go and buy one.
