Admittance of pupils

School will open between 9.05 and 9.10 for admitting pupils. Children should not arrive before 9.05am unless specifically requested by a teacher (e.g. school trip), as there is no member of staff available for supervision before this time.

The correct dress code and school uniform should be worn at all times.
Uniform
  • The wearing of a school uniform is seen as a leveller, removing the competitive elements associated with clothing choice.
  • Full school uniform is compulsory every day
  • Navy blue sweatshirt with school crest (available at O’Shea’s in town).
  • Navy blue trousers
  • Pale blue or white shirt/polo-shirt
Shoes
  • We would advise that each pupil should be able to close his shoes from an early age by himself, to develop his independence and self confidence.
    • Tip: Tie a single knot. Fold each string into a loop and tie a knot with them. This is the easiest way to train younger children, instead of a ‘bunny going around the house’ etc.
  • In the interests of safety, we do not allow ‘Doc Martins’ or heavy boots etc.
  • We are advised that wearing runners/trainers over a long period is unhealthy for children’s feet and, therefore, would encourage parents to purchase shoes as part of the school uniform.
Hair Styles
  • Hair must be in an appropriate/conventional style for school and cannot reflect any extreme of fashion. Unnatural hair colours are not acceptable and boy’s hair must be more than blade 3. Tramlines and patterns are not acceptable for school.
Jewellery
  • Jewellery should not be worn to school other than watches. Earrings are not allowed, for health and safety reasons.
Lost Property
  • Naming all items of clothing reduces the risk.
Please label items of your child’s clothing, especially jumpers, and they can then be returned to your child if lost. Though every effort will be made to help children/parents to locate and retrieve lost items, the Staff and Board of Management do not accept responsibility for children’s lost property.
  • We do keep lost property for a reasonable period of time, but it is often difficult to identify items that are not labelled. Please check in the classroom and the corridor if your child has lost something.
  • Displays of belongings left at school are made to pupils before the end of each school year and parents are notified also. If property is not claimed, it is then given away to charities.

Detailed information on all of the above topics is provided in our Code of Behaviour, school rules and School Information booklet.
