Principal’s Message

Dear Parents and Visitors,

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Newmarket Boys’ School website, which I hope will provide you with an insight into our school, its history, its culture, its vision and its ethos. I believe we are a school which embraces traditional values of family life along with a sound academic ethos. From the moment you come into our school, you will find a tangible sense of unity and a genuine, cohesive approach towards the development of each individual. We try to get to know every boy in our care and this forms the basis of the supportive style of education that we offer. We want each child to feel that they belong here and the school’s motto ‘Ní neart go cur le chéile’ disseminates values of support, respect, co-operation and empathy, which combine to create a very special, collective, inclusive atmosphere.

Whilst academic pursuits are a fundamental part of each child’s school life, we recognise that growing up is much more than just time spent in the classroom. The school provides a large range of extra activities and enrichment to the curriculum. It is important to us that all the children are able to benefit from these opportunities, regardless of ability. At the Boys’ School, the message to the boys is clear. “We want you to make an effort, to attempt everything in order to know and develop who you are – to find what you enjoy, what inspires you, what challenges you. You may find it in the classroom, in music or on the games field. You may find it in drama, in crafts and in the wonderful friendships that you will make”.

We have a particularly hard-working, dedicated team of teaching and non-teaching staff, together with a committed Board of Management and active, supportive Parents’ Association and local community, all of whom endeavour to provide a good education and safe environment for the boys. All are dedicated to inspiring and motivating your children to achieve and sustain excellence, both academically and socially.  Newmarket Boys’ School is a wonderful place in which to work and learn.

We are proud of our warm and welcoming learning environment where the school community demonstrates a mutual respect by valuing the contributions everyone makes to the successes of our school. We are proud of our pupils’ achievements and the many ways in which they prepare themselves for the challenges of life and the world around them.  It is a privilege to be the Principal of Newmarket Boys’ School, and building on the tremendous achievements of its past, I look forward to leading it together with the staff, pupils, parents and Board of Management in its next stage of development and becoming part of its unfolding and promising future.

When you visit our school, you will meet polite, well-behaved children who take great pride in themselves and in their school. We are very proud of our school, of all of our pupils and their successes.

We very much hope you enjoy reading about our school and if you would like further information, or would like to arrange a visit, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Thank you for visiting our website.

Le gach dea-ghuí,
Christine O’Mahony
