Messi

The reason I don’t like Messi is because he thinks he is unreal. I would not have him on my team.
Ronaldo is fast, he is skillful and excellent. If he kept running, he’d be faster than Bolt. I know Bolt is fast but so is Ronaldo.
My favourite players are Ronaldo and Mesut Ozil. He is German. My favourite United player is Nani. I like Barcelona.

Why you should support Man. United

Although not everybody would agree, I want to argue that Man. United is the best team in the Premier League. I have several reasons for arguing for this point of view. My first reason is that Man. United has won 19 Premier Leagues and 4 Champion Leagues and so have been very successful.
A further reason is that Wayne Rooney plays for them and is a good soccer player. Alex Ferguson is their manager. Need I say more?
Furthermore, Man. United is the only team in England who has won the treble.
Therefore, although some people might argue that Man United is not a good team, I think they are good team.

Arsenal

Arsenal is a football club in London founded in 1886. It was founded by a group of men working in a gun factory. The Arsenal grounds are in North London, off The Holloway Road. Arsenal has won 13 Premier Leagues, 10 FA Cups and 1 European Cup. In my opinion, Arsenal’s best players are Tony Adams, Theiry Henry, Lemmon, Walcott, Denis Bergcamp and David Seaman.

Dirt-bike racing is a fit sport

Dirt-bike racing is an amazing sport and it’s a way to show your talent. Your wrists and ankles get stronger from pulling the throttle, changing gears and sticking your leg out at bends. You could be on different positions at different times, like standing up when going over jumps and pulling into the handle bars at a sharp corner. Dirt-bike racing can be your hobby and you can get a lot of experience. Some people might think that dirt-bike racing is a dangerous sport.
I think I have shown that dirt-bike racing is a fit sport.

My Favourite thing

Books are my favourite things in the world. I like Dinosaur books the best. I like them because of the pictures. Dinosaurs are green, red and yellow. I like the ones with wings the best because they can fly. Dinosaurs eat other dinosaurs. I like dinosaurs because they are big. There are no dinosaurs in Ireland because they are all dead.

Michael Cronin, Age 6, Junior Infants

My favourite thing is homework. I like homework because you get to read books. I read every night with my Mom and my Dad and I like reading with them the best because they help me. Faster Than You is my favourite book. Dash and Tufty have a race and they both win. They were the same speed and they were both happy. I don’t read at the weekends because I am busy writing and playing my Wii. I like Newmarket because it’s my favourite place.

Cillian Saville, Aged 6, Senior Infants

My favourite book is Muddle Farm. It’s about animals that make the wrong sound. The cow says ‘Woof’ and the dog says ‘Baa’ and the sheep says ‘Quack’ and even the farmer said ‘Cock-a-doodle-do’. I like this book because it’s really funny. My Mom read this book with me in the evening. I got this book for homework. I am really good at reading.

Sport is our passion

Newmarket Boys’ School

Our has won many sporting events. We have won two Sciath na Scol titles in hurling, several local titles in football and hurling, and we also won the INTO mini-sevens. There is also a special emphasis on athletics in our school.
We have two training sessions a week for a half an hour per session. We train hurling on Thursdays and football on Tuesdays. We have a very good pitch beside our school and we use that for home games. We have a coach called Tim O Connor and he does athletics with us. We have a positive healthy eating programme. It improves our healthy eating. It helps us to develop peak physical exercise. There is also special emphasis on swimming and all of that improves our fitness.
In conclusion, I believe sports are great fun and hopefully we will win many titles in the future.

Patrick Browne, 6th class

Newmarket Boys’ School plays several sports. We have achieved many titles such as 2 Sciath na Scol titles in hurling, U12 Duhallow title for football and 2 or 3 medals from Cork City Sports. We have improved our sports and we hope to win another title soon.
We enjoy playing sports. At break time, we play soccer and basketball. Every Tuesday, an athletics coach called Tim O’ Connor comes in and helps us to improve our athletic skills unlike other schools. Múinteoir Eamon helps us with our hurling skills every Thursday at 2:30. We sometimes go to the field if it’s dry. Múinteoir Anthony helps us with our football skills every Tuesday at 2:30 as well. Healthy eating is very important in our school. Healthy food gives us energy and improves our fitness levels. Múinteoir Anthony promotes and encourages us to eat healthy food.
In conclusion, I hope that we will improve more on our sports and we will be unstoppable.

Cork  -v- Clare – A Sports Commentary

Tonight, we have a truly excellent match for you, the Allianz League relegation match of Cork –v- Clare.  The sides met in Páirc Uí Rinn in Cork on the 16th of March. Cork were leading for all of the first half but it turned out to be Clare’s game.
Back to the main game tonight. Cork –v-Clare relegation round. The sliotar is thrown in with Clare getting the ball first but Cork getting the first point. When one got a point, the other got a point, until Cork got a goal and another to follow. It went to extra time and Cork won.

Newmarket Boys’ School

Our School is a school which participates in a variety of sports. We have achieved titles in hurling and football such as Sciath na Scol and the Duhallow hurling and football finals. We also have an athletics trainer coming to our school to teach us about athletics.
Our school competes in numerous sports and at least over 90% of children play, watch and like some kind of sport. This year in hurling, we hope to win the Sciath na Scol County Final. We have won this title twice since we entered in 2008. Since then, to show our passion for sport, we have had 2 players to play for the Cork Primary School’s Team and hoping to have another in the near future. Athletics is important in our school as most people like running and some don’t like G.A.A. or Soccer. An Athletics trainer named Tim O’Connor comes to our school and teaches us how athletics are supposed to be done. Also, we hope to do more sports in our school within a year or so.
In conclusion, every school needs sport and I hope to have more activities in sport next year.

Cian Crowley, 6th class

Newmarket Boys’ National School has achieved 2 Sciath na Scol titles in hurling and several Duhallow titles and some athletic medals. We play a lot of sports including hurling, football, soccer and basketball. On Tuesdays, we do athletics and football training. Our athletics trainer is Tim O’Connor. On Thursdays, we do hurling training. Our hurling trainer is Múinteoir Eamon. We are also good for healthy eating and we have a healthy eating policy. To start our healthy eating policy, we had taster days when we sampled different types of healthy food. Examples were tomatoes, apples, oranges, cucumbers, peppers and bananas. We also had the Food Dudes promoting fruit and veg. by giving free samples. Once a month we’re allowed one treat such as chocolate.
In my personal opinion, I think sports play an important role in our every day school life. You need to eat healthy to be good at sports.

Healthy Eating

Newmarket Boys’ School has a healthy eating policy and it encourages children to eat fruit and vegetables. Popular fruits in our school are apples and oranges.
Our school thinks one day in the month is enough to have chocolate or sweets for lunch. It is a fact that just over 10% of children worldwide are overweight and in Ireland over 22% of children are overweight. On school trips, there is no limit to sweets so it is actually another sweet day. Our school had a Food Dudes initiative where children tried new food and even got prizes for eating the food. In addition, people thought Food Dudes was a good idea.
In my opinion, it is a positive step to improve our health.

Cian Crowley, 6th class

In Ireland, there is an estimated 300,000 obese children. Obesity is the cause of 5% of heart attacks and strokes and it is the cause of 30% of cancers. It also costs Ireland over 1.1 billion euro per year in health care. It is therefore in our best interests to prevent obesity. In our school, we are always cutting down the amount of unhealthy food we eat and we promote healthy eating. Did you know that drinking a can or bottle of fizzy drink everyday can increase your chances of getting diabetes by 1/5 or 20%.
We are not allowed crisps or fizzy drinks. Years ago, we were allowed sweets every single day but now we have cut it down to only once a month. We participated in a programme called the “Food Dudes” where we ate different kinds of fruit and vegetables each day to get prizes. We are encouraged to bring in our own fruit and vegetables into school now.
Healthy eating is a major priority and we have a very healthy school.

Darragh Lynn, 5th Class

Newmarket Boys’ School puts a particular emphasis on healthy eating. In addition to that, the teachers arranged a programme called the Food Dudes to promote healthy eating, which is very important because 22.8% of children in Ireland are overweight.
The Food Dudes gave out fruit and vegetables and if you ate all the fruit and vegetables you would get a prize. In school, we are allowed one sweet thing on the last Friday of the month. One time in our school, you were allowed to go up town but that had to stop because boys used to buy unhealthy food. On school trips there is an exception where you can bring sweets.
In my opinion, healthy eating is a great thing to improve our health.

Seachtain na Gaeilge

Bhí Seachtain na Gaeilge ar siúl í Mí Márta sa scoil. Ar dtús, bhí gach duine ag cleachtadh damhsa in éineacht le Múinteoir Jennifer. Mhúin sí Ionsaí na hInse dúinn. Bhain gach duine taitneamh as. Bhí a lán fóirne ann. Bhuaigh foireann Cill Chainnigh an tráth na gceist. Bhí an-spórt againn. Ní dhéanfaidh mé dearmad ar an lá sin go deo na ndeor.
