Duhallow Schools’ blitz

Newmarket recently participated in the Duhallow School’s hurling blitz. They competed against Kanturk,  Ballyhass,  Banteer and C.B.C.Cork. The blitz was played in a resplendent venue in Banteer.

Newmarket started very brightly in the first game. They settled very quickly and and competed very well against their first opponents Kanturk. They established an early lead and maintained it for the rest of the game. Secondly, they played against C.B.C. and performed admirably. They won that game well and subsequently played against Banteer. Fortunately, Newmarket settled quickly and raced in to a early lead and won well in the end. As a consequence of these earlier victories Newmarket played for a place in the final against Ballyhass. In a very tense first half both teams finished level. In addition to that, both teams were tiring. Newmarket greater desire and skill levels finally won out and Newmarket qualified for the Duhallow final.

It was a great achievement for the school team to qualify for another final. Hopefully, they will do themselves justice in the final.

Sciath na Scoil

Newmarket B.N.S. recently participated in the Sciath na Scoil finals in Páirc Uí Rinn. They competed against a very talented team in Whitechurch on Tuesday.

The game was played at a frantic pace. Unfortunately, Whitechurch seized the initative from early on and scored two quick unanswered goals. Finally, Newmarket settled in the game and began to play some fluent hurling. Unfortunately, Whitechurch’s greater strength and desire was evident from the beginning and they managed to score 3 quickfire goals. Newmarket improved dramatically after the break and began to hurl with renewed vigour. They scored three good points but unfortunately Whitechurch’s better balance won out.

It was a terrific experience for the children to play in, one they will remember for the rest of their lives.

Why you should go to school

Although not everyone would agree with me with the following statements, I would like to argue that all children should go to school

In order to give you a good chance in getting a good job, everyone needs a good education so it’s important to go to school.

In school you can learn about things that interest you and  you can  also learn new skills.

Furthermore, you can make friends with other people the same age and you can learn to play all different types of sports so school can be fun.

And this is why I think everyone should go to school.

What we learned about Fossil Fuels…

Fossil Fuels are coal, gas, oil and turf. We need fossil fuels to make electricity. But when fossil fuels are burnt they also create a gas that heats up the world, and all the extra heat might melt the polar ice caps where the penguins and polar bears live.

Don’t waste electricity!

How Bread is Made

Bread is a food that people eat. Bread is soft, and it is mostly white or brown. It can be toasted and eaten for breakfast and butter can be put on it and used in sandwiches.

Grains such as wheat grow on farms. The grain is cut and it is taken to a mill where the grains are used to make flour. The flour is then sent to a bakery. In the bakery the flour is mixed with water, salt, and yeast to make dough. The dough is placed into hot ovens to cook. When it is cooked the bread is taken out of the oven to cool down. Some loaves of bread are sliced in a machine and wrapped in plastic.

The bread is then put in a truck and brought to supermarkets where people can buy it.
