Story Sack

The story sack is fun. In our story sack, there is a book called ‘Cock-a-Doodle-Doo, Farmyard Hullabaloo!’, a farm set with lots of animals, hay, a feather, worksheets and a farmer’s cap. We take turns to take it home from school for a night. We read the story at home with our Mom and Dad and then we get to play with the farm set. We can wear the farmer’s cap and pretend to be the farmer! My favourite part about the story sack is the book because there is a lot of reading in it and the story is good.

Eoin O Driscoll, Seniors

I did lots of worksheets from the story sack. There is a farmer’s hat in the story sack and I put it on. I pretended to be a farmer. A farmer does lots of work on the farm. He has to feed the animals and cut silage. He ploughs the fields and he milks the cows every day. I would like to be a farmer when I grow up.

Safe Cross Code

My name is Brion O’Keeffe. One day Múinteoir Jennifer gave us visibility jackets in school. We used them to cross the road and when we were walking on the road. When you are in the dark the lights of the cars shine on the visibility jackets and that makes the drivers see you. We went outside to practice crossing the road. We had to look both ways twice before we crossed. We watched a DVD about the Safe Cross Code and we learned a song.

Show & Tell sessions

Each of the infants brought something into class and explained to everyone about their treasure.  It is used to teach young children the skills of public speaking.

Show & Tell 2

On left: “My toy is called ‘Pop goes Froggio’. You have to go fish words that match. When you find words that match you get to keep them, and you get to pop Froggio into the air and catch him!”

Another infant who did Show & Tell:

“My name is Calum Cronin. I have a safe. I like to open it
and I keep stuff in it so my brother can’t get them!
There is a secret code on it.”

On right: “My favourite toys are my dinosaurs. I got them from my Nana. I like dinosaurs because I can play with them and move their jaws.”

Another infant who told his story:
“My name is Cathal O’Riordan. My favourite toy is my laptop. I like to play games on it. My brother loves it too.”

On left:
“This is my dinosaur and he is my favourite toy because he spits his tongue out and he can bite.”

Other infants who loved to talk about their favourite:
“My name is Eoin Goggin. My favourite toy is my farm set. I can open the gates and I can put animals in the fields. I play with it in my room.”

I have a Bat quad. When you press on it, Batman shoots out! I got it from Symths with a voucher.

My favourite is my tractor.

My favourite toy is my Nintendo. I play Mario 3D Land on it. You can do some colouring and writing on it too.

Why you should go to school

It is very important to go to school. Everyone deserves an education as this will help you to get a good job. An education will stand to you for life.
A further reason is that school helps us to build friendships. It also helps us socially and prepares us for adult life.
Everybody likes to learn new things each day. We also like to learn about other countries and other languages. School is interesting and exciting.
I do not agree with people who say school is long and boring. I believe that our school days are truly the best days of our lives. It is vital that we go to school.

Why smoking is bad for you

Although not everybody would agree, I want to argue that smoking is extremely bad for you and could ultimately kill you. I have several reasons for being in favour of this point of view.
My first reason is smoking causes lots of diseases such as heart disease, lung cancer, throat cancer and many more.
A further reason is smoking is a bad influence on children and they may be tempted to try it out for themselves. Passive smoking is another reason why smoking should be made illegal because people are breathing in the smoke and have no choice in it.
Furthermore, one out of two dies from smoking related reasons and that’s a very frightening fact. So this is what smoking can do to you.
Therefore, although some people might argue that smoking a few cigarettes a day isn’t too bad, they’re wrong because any bit of tobacco is bad for you.
I think I have shown from my facts that smoking is very unhealthy.

How watching television affects your eyes

Although not everybody would agree, I want to argue that watching television will affect your eyesight in the future.
I have several reasons for promoting this point of view. My first reason is that a study carried out on watching television up too close affected the eyesight of 52% of children.
A further reason is when you are watching television, you are sitting on the couch and not getting any exercise.
Furthermore, if you spend all of your spare time watching television, you will not be able to play any sport or have other healthy hobbies.
Therefore, although some people might argue that watching television does not affect your eyesight, it is clearly not a good thing to spend a long time watching television as it is bad for your eyesight and for your health.

Why you should go to school again…

Although not everyone would agree with me on the following statements, I would like to argue that all children should go to school.
In order to give you a good chance in getting a decent job, everyone needs a good education; so it’s important to go to school.
In school, you can learn about things that interest you and you can also learn new skills.
Furthermore, you can make friends with other people the same age and you can learn to play all different types of sports. So, school can be fun.
This is why I think everyone should go to school.

Why fast food is bad for you

Although not everybody would agree, I want to argue that fast food is bad for you.
I have several reasons for supporting this point of view. My first reason is that fast food barely contains vitamins and minerals and it is not healthy food to eat.
A further reason is the fast food industry has added every chemical possible that they can legally get away with to addict people to their food.
Furthermore, fast food is high in fat, sugar and salt and can contribute to high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease.
Therefore, although some people might argue that fast food is good for you, I think it is bad for you.
I think I have shown that you should not eat fast food.

Why Hunting is a Cruel Sport

Although not everybody would agree, I want to argue that hunting is a cruel sport towards animals. I have several reasons for supporting this point of view.
My first reason is every year there are thousands of hares killed. This sport is unnecessary, it’s cruel and it’s killing.
A further reason is that these animals are often taken from their habitats very cruelly and put in fields that are strange to them. When they are being chased by an animal they don’t know where to run.
Furthermore, people that do this sport for their own entertainment are not very caring people because they are watching animals suffer who can get badly injured and have to be put down.
Therefore, although some people might argue that they earn a living from this sport and others might argue that this is a tradition they want to keep, they think this is a good enough reason for this sport to continue.
I think I have shown that hunting is a cruel sport.

Why you should play the PS3

I am here to explain to you why you should play the PS3. I have several reasons on why you should play the PS3.
My first reason is playing the PS3 is a very enjoyable way to pass time.
Also, one of the proven benefits of the PS3 is it improves your hand-eye co-ordination.
Another reason is by using the internet you can play on-line with your friends, which can help improve social interaction.
If you ever said the PS3 is a waste of time I think I have explained to you that the PS3 is not a waste of time and if you don’t have a PS3 you should go and buy one.
